FACD 2009 Smile Showdown
The FACD Smile Gallery Competition has a new name!  Starting in 2009, the yearly event that takes place at the FACD Annual Scientific Session & Trade Show will be known as the FACD Smile Showdown.  The competition is open to all FACD members, and determines the best of the best in clinical cosmetic dentistry. 

The FACD would like to thank Dental Services Group Americus Southeast for their sponsorship of the 2009 FACD Smile Showdown Competition.

Overall Criteria
The cosmetic case should show noticeable cosmetic improvement.  This will showcase our member dentists and laboratories cosmetics skills and talents.  You may submit as many cases as you wish.  Any member dentist or technician may submit cases.  Current FACD board members are not eligible to enter the competition. 

The FACD Smile Showdown Competition is not intended to judge participants' work in regards to any accreditation or certification program, and does not reflect requirements for achieving any such certificate or designation.

Eligibility
Entries for competition should have been executed between September 2008 and August 2009.

Deadline & Conditions
Entries must be received by the FACD Tallahassee Office no later than Friday, August 21, 2009. Entries received after August 21, 2009 will not be considered for judging. FACD retains the right to use submitted entries in, but not limited to advertising, public relations and the FACD web site.

Entry Fee
There is a $10 entry fee per submission that must be included with the complete Smile Showdown package, along with the other elements required under Entry Requirements in the complete guidelines.

Categories
The following case types may be submitted as Smile Showdown competition entries:

• Category 1: Two or more direct veneers
• Category 2: Four or more indirect restoration.
• Category 3: Anterior single tooth replacement (implant or bridge)
• Category 4: Direct posterior composite (note:  this category requires additional photo submissions)
• Category 5: One or more anterior direct resin (diastama or Class IV) 

Criteria for Winning an Award
The FACD Smile Showdown panel of judges will evaluate the submitted cases based upon success in the following areas:

• Quality photography (including color, exposure, depth of field, tonal range and image sharpness)
• Reasonable occlusal considerations.
• Sound smile design principles and tissue management.
• Material selection and usage. 
• Post-op management.

Each case will be judged using the provided photographs and treatment description.  Names of the dentists and technicians will not be revealed until after all judging is complete.
