Brian, 34 years old, wanted a new whiter smile with bigger teeth and he got it! Due to severe wear, Brian needed his entire bite re-worked to prevent the wear from continuing on his new teeth. He had a full functional Smile Makeover!
Brian’s teeth showed typical signs of a posterior bite interference with relatively normal back teeth and worn, short front teeth. He had an avoider pattern. He avoided the posterior interference and beat up his own front teeth with anterior posturing of the mandible. In addition, Brian is a boxer and the upper right lateral incisor was damaged. Brian’s treatment required an increase in vertical dimension and replacement of the missing tooth structure in conjunction with a complete occlusal equilibration. Brian had his front 10 teeth upper and lower treated with porcelain veneers in the front and crowns in the back. The first molars were treated with addition of composite resin as an interim measure. Later porcelain onlays will be placed. The second molars did not require restoration, they were in function soon after treatment! Brian wanted a bright white smile. The shade was based on the 020 shade of the Ivoclar Chromascop guide with a more opaque ingot that did not allow much of his natural color to show through. Marv Staggs at Precision Dental Restorations in Salem, OR designed the occlusion and smile.
