Stacey was only 16 when she had a full functional Smile Makeover! Her chief concern was the mottled coloring of the front teeth. At examination it was discovered that her upper central incisor was worn to only 8.0mm with dentin exposed! (typically 10.5 - 11.5mm). Her teeth were wearing out and needed help! Her occlusion had a discrepancy with her muscles and TM joints. There was NO cuspid guidance remaining. Tooth size was worked out with a mock up in the mouth, and recorded for the laboratory. The case was built with an open bite registration to allow for the increase in Vertical Dimension of Occlusion. The front 10 teeth upper and lower were conservatively prepared for veneers. The occlusal surfaces of the molars were treated by adding composite resin to the biting surface. The goal was to reduce the minimum amount of tooth necessary and still control the new occlusion. Marv Staggs at Precision Dental Restorations in Salem, OR designed the occlusion and smile. The porcelain shade was based on the 020 shade of the Ivoclar Chromascop guide. Stacy wanted a whiter smile but not too bright. The ingot (E01) was used to allow translucency. All porcelain Empress veneers were placed with Ivoclar’s Variolink Veneer. Occlusion was verified with the T-Scan II. A bite guard was fabricated to help protect her new smile from very active muscles.
